Siemens aims at Russian gas turbines localization of 90% soon

GROZNY, Jul 5 (PRIME) -- Germany’s Siemens plans to raise localization of gas turbines for thermal power plants in Russia to 90% in one or two years, President of Siemens in Russia Dietrich Moller told reporters on Thursday.

“We have already reached the level of local production of about 60% (by joint venture Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies),” Moller said.

“This is not too far from 90% that we need and we are sure that we can offer the most efficient gas turbines for the program of modernization… I think this will take some time, a year or two. Russian suppliers are surely included.”

He said that Siemens is not liable to any restrictions on technology transfer and is able to invest in the project.

Moller said that he heard a statement by owner of Power Machines Alexei Mordashov about his possible withdrawal from Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies, but said that he is sure work of the joint venture will continue.

Siemens said in July 2017 that all the four turbines meant to be used on a Russian power plant on the Taman Peninsula were illegally shipped to Crimea, forcing it to cancel its licensing agreements to sell power equipment to Russian firms and suspend the current agreements with state-run companies.
